About Moots: In 1981 Moots began building high-performance bike frames in Steamboat Springs Colorado. Three decades later, they still patiently build every frame by hand, one at a time. Of course their designs have evolved. Technology has evolved. But sometimes progress is knowing what should never change.
For the last two decades Moots has built frames exclusively out of premium, US-made Moots Pi Tech titanium tubing. They custom spec a proprietary blend of tube diameters and wall thicknesses for each frame style and size in their line, so every Moots frame delivers the intended ride characteristics no matter what size. What this means to you is the perfect balance between liveliness and stiffness, responsiveness and control, high-performance and comfort, weight and durability.
The extremely high quality level of a Moots frame sets the industry standard for perfectionism: frames are aligned to within 5/1000 of an inch for the most dialed and precise handling performance attainable. Moots are made differently than other titanium frames, using double pass welds. Each tube weld is done by hand. Then, a second bead of welding material is laid down over each weld, ensuring penetration deep between the two joined tubes, leading to stronger joints, finer welds, and unsurpassed durability. The double pass welding process almost doubles the time required to build a frame, and many other titanium frame builders therefore forego it. Not Moots. As in all things Moots, the choice between good-enough and no-compromise is seen as no choice at all.
More Moots differences from other titanium frames: External head-tube butting for unsurpassed strength and visual flair. Threaded titanium bottle-cage screw inserts (instead of the riveted aluminum inserts used on other brands). Titanium welded-on seat collars (instead of the inexpensive slide-on aluminum ones used on other brands.) Hand-casted and painted head badge (instead of the thin stamped ones used on other brands.) Optional titanium color Moots-logo carbon road forks (made by the manufacturer of Edge composits brand forks.) Optional Moots titanium stems and seat posts with color-matching hardware and color-outlined Moots logo decals to match the color-outlines on your Moots frame decals. More frame sizes for a better fit: up to nine sizes per model (instead of the maximum of six sizes per model available from other brands.) We could go one, but you get the idea.
What it all means: There is no single step that makes a Moots frame great. It is actually the integration of many steps, each performed by an incredibly skilled team of craftspeople, carefully woven together around their singular mission: to build the finest riding bikes possible.
